Frequently Asked Questions
Are your pieces hallmarked?
Because pieces are usually made to order for the individual customer, and because of time restraints not all pieces are hallmarked. However I do have a registered hallmark and should you require a hallmark on your pieces then please email me directly at charlotte@charlottereid.com and I will arrange this for you. Please note however that this will incur an additional fee and you will need to allow an extra week for your piece.
How can I find out my ring size?
If you are ordering a ring from me, it is important to ensure that you know your ring size. Any local jeweller shop should be able to measure your size or against another ring that you have that fits you comfortably. Do remember if you are ordering a thicker ring you may need it to be slightly bigger to allow it to comfortably slip over the knuckle.
What is Gold filled?
Gold filled or Gold rolled is a fairly new material used in this country. It is probably most commonly found and used by American jewellers . 'Gold filled' is composed of a solid layer of gold bonded with heat and pressure to a base metal such as brass. I mainly use 9 ct and 18 ct yellow gold in my work, but occasionally I use gold filled as it creates a better alternative to gold plating. Unlike gold filled, gold plating can wear away from the surface of the metal after time and often needs to be plated again. Used correctly gold filled can maintain its colour for many years.
